Matt Caldwell is a 7th generation Florida native from a family that settled in Micanopy in 1826. Raised in Lee County, he and his wife, Yvonne, now raise their daughter, Ava, there. Matt is a deacon at Gulf Coast Church of Christ and runs a timber and cattle business. He enjoys Florida’s outdoor activities, including fishing, golfing, kayaking, hunting, and camping. He holds degrees from Edison College, Florida Gulf Coast University, and the University of Florida in Forestry and Geomatics.
Matt’s career spans real estate appraisal and public service, having served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018. He chaired several key committees and sponsored numerous bills in areas like agriculture, public safety, and criminal justice. In 2020, he became Lee County Property Appraiser, continuing the legacy of his predecessor, Ken Wilkinson. Matt has volunteered for various committees and boards, focusing on financial oversight, land use, and environmental conservation. He also serves as the incoming president of the Florida State Parks Foundation and is a strong advocate for local and state policy issues.
